About US
We are a Community shed, so we are open to men and women from 18 years of age and upwards
Fostering Friendship, Skill-Sharing, and Fun in a Welcoming Community Hub
We aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment to socialise with like-minded men and women. To prevent isolation, improve mental health, to develop new skills and pass existing skills on to other members.
Visitors are welcome to pop in for a tour and chat to see what we are about, whether you just want to chat, learn a new skill or pass on a skill of your own. We also arrange day trips and evenings out for our members. We had several trips last year, including a boat trip tour of the 3 bridges from South Queensferry with a stop off at Forth Bridges Men’s shed for a visit to our fellow shedders. We also had great nights out at Lanark Memorial Hall, to see comedians and bands such as Showaddywaddy.
Over 44 MEMBERS
We are a self-supporting charity that fund raise throughout the year as well as applying for grants to help cover our running costs. There are no membership fees – we just pay a donation for our tea/coffee/biscuits. Visitors and New Members always welcome.
What is a Men’s Shed?
A Men’s Shed is a community space where men gather to work on practical projects, share skills, and build social connections. These sheds offer a friendly, inclusive environment for men of all ages and backgrounds to engage in activities such as woodworking, gardening, or repairs. The focus is on creating a place for men to connect, learn, and contribute, often enhancing their mental and physical well-being while reducing isolation.
How do Men’s Sheds work?
Men’s Sheds are typically volunteer-run, non-profit organizations tailored to the interests and needs of their members. They operate with funding from membership fees, donations, grants, and local partnerships. Each shed provides tools, equipment, and a workspace for individual or collaborative projects. Managed democratically by participants, they also offer skill-sharing, workshops, and opportunities for community engagement, making them flexible and member-driven.
Why are Men’s Sheds important?
Men’s Sheds address social isolation and boost mental health, especially for older men who may feel disconnected after retirement or life changes. They provide a sense of purpose, camaraderie, and activity, helping to reduce loneliness and depression. Beyond individual benefits, sheds promote lifelong learning, skill-sharing, and community contributions through projects, making them a vital resource for both personal well-being and societal good.
